What is SpamAssassin?

SpamAssassin is a mail filter that identifies spam (unsolicited email).

Why use SpamAssassin?

Vendhost customers will find that enabling SpamAssassin will greatly reduce the amount of spam present within their inboxes. Users should also be sure to check their "Spam" folders for any false positives.

How do I Enable SpamAssassin?

Step 1
Log in to cPanel (Example: http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel)
Step 2
Go to the Mail section > SpamAssassin > click on Enable SpamAssassin
You will be taken to a page that displays "Attempting to enable SpamAssassin..." plus other details like version etc. as well as "Spam Assassin has been enabled on this account" and "SpamAssassin is now: Enabled". If you do not get this message please copy the message that you do get and email us at Support.

That is all that is required for a standard setup of SpamAssassin. If however, you wish to configure the settings a little please use the "Configure SpamAssassin" button under the SpamAssassin Configuration section. The default settings are as follows:

You can also add unwanted emails to your blacklist and wanted emails marked as spam to your whitelist.

You may wish to add a filter to delete all emails marked as spam with a certain score to be deleted. Simply click on the "Auto-Delete Spam" button. The default score settings is 5.

You may also wish to set up your Default Address for your hosting account to help reduce the volume of spam into your email accounts. This can be setup under the Mail section in cPanel. (Default Address is the first item from the right under Mail). Read more about setting your Default Address.
